Answers to the Rabbi's Tombs

the righteous people of our heritage are considered connecting intermediaries for the entire jewish nation. we do not pray to the righteous people but we view them as aids that allow us to enter a holier realm and achieve greater spiritual intimacy with g-d on our personal level. this is an important distinction because it means that the holy grave sites are a place where we can access a deeper spiritual consciousness for ourselves through the fact that the gates of heaven are more accessible to the righteous people and in their merit we can tap into that zone.
common customs associated with this experience then include, prayer, meditation, and lighting candles. the fire acts as a tribute to the eternal resting souls and a physical tool for us to increase in our spiritual light.
