Church Synagogue

This is the small church, actually above the original church which has not been excavated, that Jesus is said to have spoken at while it was a synagogue. The story goes that Jesus did a midrash here that was not well received by the Jews. He was supposedly driven out at this point.

Undoubtedly Jesus was a learned, thoughtful, reflective Jew who had ideas derived from his pastural life in Nazareth. The site is now revered as a church/synaogue and operated by the Greek Orthodox church, which is very big in Nazareth. Close to half of the 135,000 Christians living in Israel are in Nazareth.
